As an adult Ana emigrated from her native homeland of Yugoslavia, arriving with a very limited grasp of English but a big desire to make a successful career and life for herself in her adopted country.
Starting her career with us as a cleaner 13 years ago; she knew she had the capabilities to work her way into a management position but also knew that language was a barrier and committing herself to learning English, attending lessons, reading everything she could get her hands on and conversing in English at every opportunity, she was quickly speaking the most difficult of languages to learn.
After a couple of years her talents with people, operations, and her leadership traits ensured Ana was promoted to a supervisory position. Her outstanding care in her work, enthusiasm, and intelligence saw her continue to move up through the company to a contract manager responsible for a number of high rise buildings in Facilities First portfolio to now as the operations manager responsible for pretty much everything that happens. From ensuring the business delivers on its obligations and services, to budgets, staff performance, inventory control, and her favourite part of the role, developing relationships and participating in team development. Ana has made a significant contribution to every position she has worked in.
Ana is always striving for more responsibilities. She takes enormous pride in the company’s client first approach and how everything we do is focused on care and quality. She has forged wonderful relationships throughout her tenure with her colleagues and highly communicative and positive relationships with the many stakeholders and clients she interacts with.
“I’ve worked in services most of my life. When you truly enjoy making other people happy and get great reward and satisfaction from being a positive influence on others, then service based industries are the best place to be” Says Ana
Ana is definitely a team orientated personality. She thrives on team dynamics, surprising her colleagues with random acts of kindness, such as the occasional tool box and planning a cleaners day lunch to recognise the great work they do. Never forgetting where she started, she takes real pleasure in developing new and upcoming people. Having worked in many divisions her natural warmth combined with her experiences enables Ana to communicate authentically with team members across all departments and she plays an important advocacy role for new and emerging leaders.
In her spare time you will find Ana either buried in a good book, spending time with her beloved dog, or simply enjoying the spontaneity and freedom of a weekend walk and a coffee at her favourite hangout.
Ana feels the care she sees throughout the company and how it treats its people is easily recognisable in the level of care that is given to each and every client. The Facilities First focus on care is ingrained in our culture and for Ana it is infectious and a great way to live and work.
“ The people here and the clients we work with are very important to me. I make it my goal to ensure everything I do has a positive impact, whether it be big or small. When I see a job done well it makes me that little bit happier” Ana says.
As an Operations Manager; Ana’s priorities touch most aspects of the business. Her commitment to the Facilities First clients sets a wonderful example to the rest of her team and illustrates the company’s culture and values as a caring and professional organisation.
