Client Services Manager

Shyamanta Barua’s path to joining the team at Facilities First has been anything but typical. But then, Shyamanta isn’t your typical Client Services Manager.

“I moved to Australia in 2010 after spending more than ten years as a Buddhist monk, living in Bangladesh, India and Thailand.

In my early days in Australia, I worked in the hospitality industry before moving across to the commercial cleaning industry, eventually becoming a site supervisor. As with any migrant story, I certainly had my struggles. But then a friend introduced me to Facilities First, and I will be forever grateful for that.”

In his role at Facilities First, Shyamanta is responsible for close to 100 sites in our whole of government contract. From council sites to ambulance stations, community health centres, bus depots, service centres and electorate offices, his portfolio is a large one.

Shyamanta uses his strong relationship skills to ensure he has many happy clients.

“I’m in touch with my clients daily as well as making regular site visits. I pride myself on my work ethic and my values of kindness and care. That really helps me to build solid client relationships.

I have a team of 60 plus other contractors and stakeholders, so it’s a large team to manage. Everyone knows me as a very calm person… and my training as a Buddhist monk certainly helps with that. I have completed five Vipassana – 10-day intensive meditation retreats. I practise meditation every day and it really does help me in my role.”

Shyamanta’s values are shared with our corporate values here at Facilities First Australia. He has a can-do attitude and is keen to learn as much as he can to grow in his role. And that’s a huge part of the reason why Shyamanta slots so well into our team.

“I am grateful to Facilities First for seeing my potential and giving me the opportunity to extend my knowledge and build my career. I had never held a management role prior to working here, but they were open to helping me develop in the role. The company really does care… about our clients… about our work… and about our team.

As a team we have great relationships. Our CEO, Ben Bayot, is so down to earth and it’s really clear that he cares about every single person who works here. My Manager, Kevin Borg, has been so supportive, helping me grow within the business. And I have been involved in some really interesting and rewarding projects with Janelle Dixon, our General Manager of Integration, Communications and Recruitment.

The more support and care I receive, the more responsibility I feel to work harder for the company.”

In the past, Shyamanta has volunteered as a Buddhist scripture teacher in NSW schools and is now studying Buddhist chaplaincy so he can volunteer as a chaplain in hospitals and prisons.
