Steve arrived in Australia as a fresh faced 19 year old young man from his homeland of Macedonia. Landing in Perth, Western Australia, he soon found work in a small mining town 50kms from Kalgoorlie, literally in the middle of nowhere. He fell in love with the tight knit community and the outback way of life, where everybody knew each other and everybody looked out for each other. It was a culture that he identified with straight away and one that he still relishes in his role with Facilities First.

Starting as a cleaner, Steve found his groove, and his naturally optimistic and friendly personality endeared him to the locals, and his can-do work ethic didn’t go unnoticed by his employers.

After working in the small community for almost four years, Steve had risen through the ranks and was seconded back to Perth to take a leadership role where his experience and leadership qualities enabled him to take responsibilities for large high rise office complexes and other asset management requirements.

Nowadays, Steve is a highly valued member of the client services management team. Leading a team of around 70-80 people, he brings his can-do attitude and genuine compassion for his clients and team to work every day. Lessons learnt from his days in the mining town still resonate. Genuine care and integrity and approaching every challenge from the position of the glass is always half full.

“I have been in this industry for all my working life. I really do love it and when you love what you do, your work is always rewarding. These days, I take great pride in the relationships I have made and continue to develop with my clients. Sharing a cup of coffee with them, understanding their needs and acting on the feedback is what makes me tick,” says Steve.

Steve’s team understands what it takes to get the job done right. They all work together to ensure the facilities they look after are presented in the best possible condition, are safe, clean and functioning at their very best. Steve does not hesitate to jump in when needed, either.

“Sometimes it is good to get back on the tools and work with the cleaners in a hands-on role. It is a great opportunity to stay connected with the team, teach a few tricks and learn how they are going and the challenges they are facing. I want to understand everything that is going on with my clients and my team so I can bring my best every day,” Steve mentioned in a recent interview.

At Facilities First, we strive to have the best people developing the best people. Steve is one person who sets high standards and teaches others how to reach them. No problem is too big or too small for him. Having a happy team and happy clients make his day complete.

Married with two children, Steve’s family life is very important. He still plays competitive soccer and loves to take the family back to Europe when it is safe to do. You won’t find Steve in the office too often. He loves to be on site supporting his clients and his team; however, he will always be the first to arrive when the staff bbq is on.
